All about MuskMelon

Cantaloupe melons are a good source of potassium, vitamin A and folate. They are helpful to the kidneys and are a useful laxative.

All About MuskMelon

This juicy fruit is one of two broad classes of melons, the other being watermelon. It's been grown by the Chinese, Greeks, Romans and Egyptians for thousands of years.
The two principal varieties of muskmelon are those with netted skins (including cantaloupe, persian melon and santa claus or Christmas melon), and those with smooth skins (such as casaba, crenshaw and honeydew melon).
The skin can range in color from creamy white to celadon green to jade green, with many variations and shades in between.

» Cantaloupe is an excellent source of vitamin A and vitamin C.
» It is also a very good source of potassium and a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B6 and folate.

Benefits
» Muskmelon offers a decent dose of fiber.
» Muskmelons are rich in potassium, a nutrient that may help control blood pressure, regulate heart beat, and possibly prevent strokes.
» This potassium-rich fruit helps keep salt from raising blood pressure and may also reduce the risk of developing kidney stones.
» Muskmelons are capable of preventing heart disease, cancer, and other chronic conditions.

How to eat Muskmelon
Since bacteria can grow on the surface of most melons, it is important to wash the outside of the melons before cutting into it. After washing, simply slice the melon into pieces of desired thickness and scoop out the seeds and netting. No time to prepare your fruit salad right before serving? You can prepare it several hours ahead or even the day before and still have fresh, flavorful cantaloupe. Simply cut up the fruit while holding it under water.
